White Dog and Steve are weather watchers, as in listening to those who supposedly can predict the weather coming up. Last night as we prepared for bed, both went out for one last scan of the sky. It was expected to snow heavily and for it to be bitter cold. "Doesn't look like snow yet," they agreed. But the wind rattled the windows and the temperatures dropped.

The forecast was 3.5" or more by morning.

I heard the White Dog go out in the night to check and come quickly back in; they did not indicate any whiteness. Steve gave a report mid passage of night that it was not snowing yet. At first light all rushed into the yard only to return with icy furs (and skin) to wake me and let me know in disappointed tones that we "only had a dusting."

Meanwhile, schools and non-essential government offices were closed; the rest of the city was put on a 2-hour delay; it looked like we were going to have a "snow day" come snow or not.

It did begin snowing more heavily as we ate breakfast and Steve decided to just "take his time and go in late." The WDA was overjoyed as they watched the big flakes land; I know all were hoping that going in late would end up being "staying home."

As much as he wanted, Steve could not justify hysteria over our snowscape and he brushed the white from Pumpkin then backed down the drive.

By 2pm, there was no snow to be seen at our house, not even in the shady corners of the yard. "Guess dad won't be home early," Pearl moaned. "And forget those snow zoomie battles," Zsofia said to Roman.
